About State University of New York at New Paltz

The State University of New York at New Paltz, or SUNY New Paltz for short, is a public university in New Paltz, which is a town in Ulster County, in the US state of New York, with a population estimated at a number of more than 12 800 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2000 census.


The university was established in 1828, as the New Paltz Classic Academy, and it is the 99th oldest collegiate institution in the country. It offers its students a total of 100 undergraduate and 50 graduate programs, including pre-doctoral certification in Educational Supervision and Administration, offering both the baccalaureate and master degrees, through the Schools of Education, Fine and Performing Arts, Business, Science and Engineering, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.


Athletics

SUNY New Paltz's athletic teams are known as the Hawks and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are blue and orange and their mascot is Hugo the Hawk.
